Old Abe State Trail
The Old Abe State Trail is a paved 19.5-mile abandoned railroad grade connecting two State Parks, from Chippewa Falls to Cornell. This old railroad grade has been developed into a multi-use trail for bicyclists, snowmobilers, hikers, horseback riders and in-line skaters. A 10 mile section of the trail from Jim Falls to Cornell was repaved in 2013 and a 10 mile section of the trail from Chippewa Falls to Jim Falls was repaved this spring, so get out and see this beautiful newly repaved trail.
Begin your trail experience at either the trail head on 97th Avenue (junction of Hwy S & Hwy O), in Cornell at the Mill Yard Park, or at the Town Hall parking lot in Jim Falls. The Old Abe State Trail connects with the Duncan Creek Trail northeast of County Highway I.
State trail passes are required for all individuals over 16, who are biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing or in-line skating. Self registration passes available at the trailheads in Cornell at the Millyard Park, and at Lake Wissota on 97th Ave. In Chippewa Falls passes are available at the Chippewa Falls Visitor Center, 1 N. Bridge St., and at Spring Street Sports, 12 W. Spring Street. 2017 pricing: $25 for annual passes and $5 for daily passes and are valid on all Wisconsin State Trails (prices are subject to change).
